More Americans than ever are leaving their jobs. According to data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey, annual “quits” reached an all-time peak of 40.1 million last year. Dermatologists have also shown increased workplace mobility, with one in four dermatologists changing jobs in the last five years, according to AAD Life in Practice Survey data.
Survey data show that dermatologists are primarily transferring to dermatology groups. In a recent survey of 294 dermatologists who had changed job settings in the past five years, 51% said they had switched to a group practice (see graphic below for a full breakdown of dermatologist job mobility trends). Of those who joined a group practice, 62% joined a physician-owned group, with 38% taking positions at equity-backed groups.
