1 million patients affected by ransomware in one month
Facts at your fingertips
By Emily Margosian, Assistant Editor, July 1, 2022
Ransomware attacks seeking valuable patient records thus far show no signs of slowing down in 2022. In March 2022 alone, 26 health organizations reported to HHS that they had been affected by data breaches, impacting nearly one million individuals (the true number impacted is likely higher, as HHS only collects information from data breaches impacting 500 patients or more).
In response, the HHS Cybersecurity Program has issued alerts to health care organizations, urging them to increase preventative security measures, including two-factor authentication, strong passwords, sufficient backups of critical data, and continuous monitoring. Learn more about what you can do to keep your dermatology practice safe.
