Where do Americans get pricing information for health care services?
Facts at your Fingertips
By Emily Margosian, Assistant Editor, November 1, 2022
New survey data released this year by Akasa, a health care AI developer, found that Americans most often turn to health insurers for pricing information over other sources, placing new emphasis on the need for price transparency and cooperation from payers.
The survey found that 36% of Americans have researched health care service prices — and 60% of those who do, look to health insurance companies for pricing.
Additionally, 44% of survey respondents said that their health insurance company does not provide pricing information for local health care providers, and 34% do not know if this information is available. See the chart below for a further breakdown of how and where Americans access health care pricing information.
