Mpox outbreak: U.S. snapshot

It has been one year since an outbreak of Mpox was confirmed in the United States. While cases have dropped off in recent history, as of January 2023, total U.S. cases of Mpox totaled just under 30,000 (29,980) with 21 total deaths recorded across the country. According to CDC data, the U.S. Mpox outbreak peaked in early August of 2022 at over 450 cases per day and has steadily declined since. As of January 2023, over one million (1,171,826) doses of Mpox vaccine (JYNNEOS) have been administered in the United States.
Case demographics data indicate that most U.S. Mpox cases involve men, aged 31 to 35 years, with top reported symptoms including rash (97%), fever (63%), malaise (62%), chills (59%), and pruritus (58%). For a broader picture of the U.S. Mpox outbreak, see the graphic below.
