How can I avoid meeting fraud and verify the AAD/A event I’m registering for is legitimate?

As the Academy’s 2024 Annual Meeting in San Diego approaches, members can follow a few simple steps to stay safe when registering for AAD/A events.
Most meeting fraud can be avoided by verifying the authenticity of a registration/housing site before providing any personal or financial information.
Registration and housing for official AAD/A meetings should only be done through the Academy’s website and the AAD’s legitimate registration and housing partner, Maritz Global Events (MGE). Companies unaffiliated with the AAD or MGE may contact you directly to offer registration and/or housing for Academy meetings through websites designed to deceive visitors by posing as an AAD website.
Do not give your credit card information to, or make any reservations with, any website other than our legitimate registration and housing partner, Maritz Global Events. In partnership with MGE, group room packages will be managed by FHT Global. Reservations made by unaffiliated organizations may appear to be for lower rates, however, they may be illegitimate, have unreasonable cancelation or change penalties, or be completely non-refundable. Please be aware of and report any unauthorized solicitation to the AAD.
For your own protection, please do not make reservations through any unknown housing or travel company. If you receive a phone call or email from any company that is not our official housing provider, Maritz Global Events, please contact the Academy immediately at mrc@aad.org.
Members can securely register for AAD/A meetings by taking the following steps:
Visit staging.aad.org/meetings.
Select your meeting.
Select “Registration.”
