Rising prescription drug costs continue to put an escalating financial strain on the U.S. health care system, creating affordability challenges for patients. According to HHS, between January 2022 to January 2023, more than 4,200 drug products had price increases, of which nearly half (46%) were larger than the rate of inflation.
How does the cost of dermatology drugs fit into this equation? A recent JAAD report identified dermatology prescriptions with the highest cost burden on Medicare Part D, which accounted for $216 billion total spending in 2021.
