An integral segment of Academy donations come through cause marketing efforts. As a practice grows, it can find ways to support programs that support the dermatology community. A prime example of cause marketing comes from Skin Medicinals. When clients use Skin Medicinals, they are directly supporting dermatology. Skin Medicinals has donated over $100,000 to non-profits supporting the dermatology community over the years, including donations to the AAD to support resident scholarships that focused on projects that improve access to health care. Most recently, Skin Medicinals donated $25,000 to AAD’s Camp Discovery. We caught up with Ashvin Garlapati, DO, FAOCD, FAAD, founder and president of Skin Medicinals, to talk about the value of cause marketing donations.
DermWorld: How did the recent cause marketing donation to Camp Discovery happen?
DermWorld: How would you describe the value of Camp Discovery — to you, to dermatology, and the public?
Dr. Garlapati: The value of supporting children dealing with chronic medical conditions can’t be overstated. Helping kids just be kids is one of the most valuable things society can do, and we are proud to be able to contribute to this in our own way.
DermWorld: Why is it vital to support Camp Discovery and other AAD programs?
Dr. Garlapati: We believe it is important to give back to the amazing dermatologists and patients who make up our field. The AAD exists to support the field of dermatology, but one organization isn’t going to get it done on its own. It will take all of us, and Skin Medicinals will always do everything it can to support the AAD and its mission of helping dermatologists and their patients. We pride ourselves on making it our purpose to make sure we are always donating to organizations that align with the same goals as us. Camp Discovery is an amazing program that supports children with chronic skin conditions to have a place to swim, fish, and just have fun! There is nothing more important than helping children dealing with chronic conditions, to just be a kid and enjoy the summer, and we think it’s critical to support endeavors such as this, and we couldn’t be prouder of donating to this initiative.
DermWorld: How do you view the concept of cause marketing donation to affect positive change?
Dr. Garlapati: Giving to those who need help always affects positive change. Being in a position where we have built a community of dermatology professionals who have stood behind our company, the least we can do is to help the profession, its members, and their patients. The pillar of our mission at Skin Medicinals has always been to support our field and its patients.
