Talking Points: Skin Cancer Awareness Month
Please use the following key messages when you’re educating the public about skin cancer prevention and detection for Skin Cancer Awareness Month.
Skin cancer can have a serious impact on your health and well-being.
Everyone is at risk for skin cancer. In fact, at least one in five Americans will develop skin cancer during their lifetime.
You can prevent and detect skin cancer:
Prevent skin cancer by seeking shade, covering up, and wearing sunscreen.
Detect skin cancer by looking for new, changing or suspicious spots on your skin.
No one understands your skin better than a board-certified dermatologist.
Skin cancer is highly treatable when detected early. If you notice any new spots on your skin, any spots that look different from the others, or anything changing, itching or bleeding, see a board-certified dermatologist.
