JAAD Journals Editorial Mentorship Program
New in 2026 — Expansion of the Mentorship Program to JAAD International and JAAD Reviews!
The JAAD Journals’ Editorial Mentorship Program is designed for young physicians, as well as mid- and late-career dermatologists, who are interested in developing critical appraisal and editorial skills in peer-reviewed journals.
Selected participants will be assigned to a JAAD journal and an experienced mentor. Applicants will rank-order their journal-assignment preference as part of the application. Once assigned to a journal, mentees will work with their mentor to review a variety of journal manuscript submissions, including prospective studies, retrospective studies, surveys, reviews, and letters.
Applicants will be assigned to one of three JAAD journals: JAAD, JAAD International, or JAAD Reviews. (Note: JAAD Case Reports has a separate resident mentor program through its Grand Rounds Workgroup and is not available through this mentorship program.) Purpose
The purpose of the program is to mentor and create strong reviewers who will continue to support the JAAD journals program.
Program
Duration: One year, July 1 through June 30
Workload:
JAAD mentees will be expected to review 12–24 manuscripts during the year (1-2/month)
JAAD International mentees will be expected to review 10–15 manuscripts during the year. JAAD International may appeal to international members who are interested in reviewing manuscripts.
JAAD Reviews mentees will be expected to review 6–10 manuscripts during the year.
Complete each review within the assigned timeframe.
Be reasonably accessible via email or phone for discussion with your mentor.
Complete an evaluation upon close of the program.
Continue to review for the selected journal for up to five years following completion of the program.
Eligibility
Must be a Fellow or International Fellow member of the AAD in good standing and maintain membership standing during the participation period.
Must have the desire to learn and develop appraisal and editorial skills.
Mentee Application Materials
With your completed mentee application, you must include:
One letter of recommendation. For early career dermatologists the letter may be from your ADLP mentor, residency program chair, or program director.
Executive curriculum vitae (limit of no more than three pages).
