JAAD Editorial Mentorship Program


The JAAD Editorial Mentorship Program is designed for young physicians, as well as mid-and-late career dermatologists, who are interested in developing critical appraisal and editorial skills in peer-reviewed journals.

Selected participants will be assigned an experienced mentor. Working with their mentor, participants will have the opportunity to review a variety of journal manuscript submissions, including prospective studies, retrospective studies, surveys, reviews, and letters.

The 2025-2026 JAAD mentorship application process is closed. Please check back in Spring 2026 for applications to open for the 2026-27 cohort year.


Purpose

The purpose of the program is to mentor and create strong reviewers that will continue to contribute to the support of JAAD.

Program

  • Duration: One year, July 1 through June 30

  • Workload: Review at least 12-24 manuscripts (1-2/month) during the one-year program.

    • Complete each review within the assigned timeframe.

    • Be reasonably accessible via email or phone for discussion with your mentor.

    • Complete an evaluation upon close of the program.

    • Continue to review for the journal for up to two years following completion of the program.

Eligibility

  • Must be a Fellow member of the AAD in good standing and maintain membership standing during the participation period.

  • Must have the desire to learn and develop appraisal and editorial skills.

Application materials

In addition to your completed application, you also must submit: 

  • One letter of recommendation. For early career dermatologists the letter may be from your ADLP mentor, residency program chair, or program director.

  • Executive curriculum vitae (limit of no more than three pages).
