Preventing suicide
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), nearly 800,000 people die by suicide every year, making it one of the leading causes of death worldwide. However, for each suicide, there are many more individuals who contemplate it or make unsuccessful attempts.
If you or someone you know is experiencing suicidal thoughts or behaviors, seek help immediately.
In the U.S., call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (1-800 273-8255). The Lifeline is free, confidential, and available 24 hours, 7 days a week. It is staffed by trained professionals who can provide timely support and guidance.
If you are in an urgent crisis or know someone else who is, call 9-1-1 immediately.
