Measure: e-Prescribing (PI_EP_1)

DESCRIPTIONAt least one permissible prescription written by the MIPS eligible clinician is transmitted electronically using CEHRT.

REPORTING REQUIREMENTS
NUMERATOR/DENOMINATOR

NUMERATOR: Number of prescriptions in the denominator generated and transmitted electronically using CEHRT.

DENOMINATOR: Number of prescriptions written for drugs requiring a prescription in order to be dispensed other than controlled substances during the performance period; or number of prescriptions written for drugs requiring a prescription in order to be dispensed during the performance period.

Exclusions for e-Prescribing (PI_EP_1)

EXCLUSIONSAny MIPS eligible clinician who writes fewer than 100 permissible prescriptions during the performance period.
IF AN EXCLUSION IS CLAIMEDThe 10 points for the e-Prescribing measure will be redistributed equally among the measures associated with the Health Information Exchange objective – 5 points to the Support Electronic Referral Loops by Sending Health Information measure and 5 points to the Support Electronic Referral Loops by Receiving and Incorporating Health Information measure.

Measure specifications

Required measure: Query of Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP) (PI_EP_2)

DESCRIPTIONFor at least one Schedule II opioid or Schedule III or IV drug electronically prescribed using CEHRT during the performance period, the MIPS eligible clinician uses data from CEHRT to conduct a query of a PDMP for a prescription drug history.

REPORTING REQUIREMENTS
YES/NO

The MIPS eligible clinician must attest YES to conducting a query of a PDMP for at least one Schedule II opioid or Schedule III or IV drug electronically prescribed using CEHRT.

Exclusions for Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP) (PI_EP_2)

EXCLUSIONS
Any MIPS eligible clinician meeting one or more of the following criteria may be excluded from the PDMP measure if the MIPS eligible clinician:

  1. Is unable to electronically prescribe Schedule II opioids and Schedule III and IV drugs in accordance with applicable law during the performance period.
  2. Does not electronically prescribe any Schedule II opioids or Schedule III or IV drugs during the performance period.
IF AN EXCLUSION IS CLAIMED
The 10 points are redistributed to the e-Prescribing measure.
