Academy develops guidelines on AK management, reconstruction after skin cancer resection
The Academy is dedicated to promoting and encouraging dermatology research and applying evidence-based findings to improve patient care. This includes the development of rigorous, evidence-based guidelines of care for dermatologic conditions.
Working in collaboration with representatives from several physician organizations, the AAD co-developed guidelines for the management of reconstruction after skin cancer resection. These guidelines offer recommendations related to the timing of reconstruction, management of anticoagulation, use of antibiotics, methods of pain control, and follow-up assessments.
The Academy also developed guidelines that address the management of actinic keratosis, by conducting a thorough analysis of the evidence from a systematic review based on five research questions. The result: 18 evidence-based recommendations for treatment.
These new sets of guidelines, along with others developed by the Academy and its partners, are helping you meet your clinical and quality goals.
