Providing meaningful benefits — Coding

We went into detail on the new coding rules
When the new E/M coding rules debuted in January, you flocked to staging.aad.org/coding for help figuring out the right code for every encounter. We had a lot of resources waiting there for you — but you made it clear you wanted more.
The AAD Coding and Reimbursement Committee and the Academy’s coding staff responded, quickly crafting a series of coding vignettes that get into the nitty-gritty details of everyday dermatology practice. Each vignette explores a specific clinical scenario, evaluating the medical decision-making (MDM) elements present during the encounter and explaining the rationale by which those elements meet the criteria for a specific level of MDM and, thus, meet the requirements for a specific E/M code.
The vignettes began appearing as Derm Coding Consult articles in March; you can view them all at staging.aad.org/dcc. Maybe you’ll enjoy them as much as one of your colleagues, who called and left the following message:
“The information that the coding resource people put on the website is really fabulous. There is so much information, and I was able to learn how to do the coding changes. I really appreciate that — it helped me out a lot!”
