Is MIPS a burden? Tell CMS and get full credit in 2018.
CMS is inviting physicians to participate in a one-year study that will examine the burdens associated with Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) participation. Specifically, CMS seeks to study the clinical workflows and data collection methods through various submission systems to better understand the challenges associated with quality data reporting. Physicians eligible for MIPS can participate in the study and if they participate successfully can earn full credit for the 2018 MIPS Improvement Activities category. Applications are due March 23.
Plan on submitting data for the 2017 MIPS performance period? Mark your calendars with these important deadlines:
- March 16 at 8 pm ET: Deadline for 2017 data submission for groups reporting via the CMS web interface.
- March 31: Deadline for 2017 data submission for all other MIPS reporting, including via qpp.cms.gov.

Results for the Academy’s 2018 election have been announced. Click here for more information about the elected officers and directors.
ABD requests Mohs subspecialty certification
The American Board of Dermatology (ABD) has announced that it has notified the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) of its intent to submit an application to offer a Micrographic Dermatologic Surgery (MDS) subspecialty certificate.
In May, the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) conducted a member survey regarding a proposed Micrographic Surgery & Dermatologic Oncology certification. According to the survey results, 51.2% of members who responded indicated that they would support a sub-certification category for Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology, and 48.1% indicated that they would not support the sub-certification.

AAD relocates headquarters
The Academy’s headquarters completed its move from Schaumburg, Illinois to Rosemont, Illinois this week.
As a result of the move, the Academy has a new physical address:

Conversion therapy still common for LGBT population
According to The Williams Institute at UCLA School of Law in California, an estimated 700,000 LGBT adults have undergone conversion therapy in the United States. While conversion therapy is legal in most of the United States, it is illegal in several states, cities, and counties. Conversion therapy aside, general health care discrepancies have been identified for the LGBT community as well.
