Dermatology heads to Capitol Hill
Facts at your Fingertips
By Emily Margosian, assistant editor, December 3, 2018
The contentious midterm election season has concluded, but the impact from the 2018 AADA Legislative Conference is still going strong. In July, physicians, patients, patient advocates, dermatology nurses, and dermatology practice administrators gathered in Washington, D.C. to bring key dermatologic issues before members of Congress. Overall, attendees took part in 229 congressional meetings — including 87 member-level meetings in which the Senator or Representative was present.
During visits with their congressional offices, AADA members requested support for:
- Legislation to increase transparency on the part of Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs)
- Legislation to streamline electronic prior authorizations (ePA) in Medicare
- A letter to HHS to encourage streamlined reporting and data-sharing in the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS)
AADA members unable to attend the conference were invited to participate in a “Virtual Fly-in” by sending a letter to their members of Congress about the AADA’s legislative asks, resulting in 123 letters sent by 41 AADA members.
See the graphic below for a more detailed breakdown of this year’s impact, and save the date for the 2019 Legislative Conference, Sept. 8-10.
