I don’t know about you, but I feel like we are nearing the end of an 18-month winter…I guess spring is good for that, and this May, in particular, offers much hope and possibility. We just need to keep looking beyond that which is, to that which can (or should I say “may”?) be.
We have lots of great reading for you this month! Yes, I am biased, but hey, I didn’t write most of the articles myself, so I don’t feel too bad bragging about them every month. We are so lucky to have an amazing staff of dedicated writers, editors, and designers, who are dedicated to making DermWorld the best policy and practice magazine out there! It is truly my privilege to work with them every month. I would also like to offer a shout-out to an unsung hero, our AAD Assistant Secretary-Treasurer, Dr. Dan Bennett. One of Dan’s many jobs includes meticulously proof-reading our magazine each month to ensure we remain on target. His thoughtful review and commentary are always spot-on and are much appreciated!
This month in DermWorld, you can learn more about JAK inhibitors and see how COVID-19 has impacted our practices. Frustrated with modifier 25 hassles? You are not alone! Learn what the AADA has been doing to help ensure we get appropriate reimbursement when we do procedures during our visits. Get a quick wrap-up on the 2021 E/M changes, and get sage advice from one of our colleagues on managing difficult patients. All this and more awaits you in this edition!
With the spring comes transition. Last month, I promised to introduce you to our newest DermWorld Editorial Advisors! Please welcome Drs. Craig Burkhart, Avery LaChance, Michael Marchetti, and our newest member, Maureen Offiah. I know they will bring us their unique perspectives with their “hot” contributions! They are being joined by our Young Physician Advisor, Jenna O‘Neill, MD, and our resident member Dr. Taylor Gray. May is our annual planning month, when we bring together thoughts and ideas from our staff, workgroup, and readers to create our next editorial calendar. We strive to write articles that are at the same time useful and entertaining. My thanks to those of you who have offered us feedback on our articles. We always appreciate hearing from you (even if you don’t like something!) at DWeditor@aad.org. Rarely, we are gifted with a personal contribution from one of our members willing to share his or her thoughts in our First Person column. I promise Dr. Walter Larsen’s musings will make you smile and remind you what a wonderful group of people we have in the dermatology family!
Speaking of hard work, our new Academy leadership, headed by Drs. Ken Tomecki and Neal Bhatia, is now fully engaged, and working on our behalf in many arenas. We wish them luck as we move forward in hopes of attending our first in-person meeting this summer! If you are able to travel, plan to put Tampa on your calendar. We hope to see you there!
