Demand for cosmetic procedures resumes after COVID
Facts at your Fingertips
By Emily Margosian, Assistant Editor, April 1, 2023
During the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, many practices paused elective and cosmetic procedures for several weeks, followed by further disruptions due to the ebb and flow in national and regional caseloads.
The release of new data from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) tracking cosmetic procedures in 2022 offers further insight into how COVID impacted the number and type of procedures compared to pre-pandemic levels — and what demand looks like today as caseloads remain relatively stable. The survey found patient motivations to seek cosmetic surgery have been influenced by the pandemic and that patients are spending more on cosmetic procedures than they did pre-pandemic. Patient-cited motivations for seeking cosmetic surgery included not traveling as much and using travel budget for cosmetic procedures (42%) and wanting to feel more confident following the pandemic (40%).
