New data released by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) show a consistent demand for cosmetic procedures, with a growing preference for minimally invasive options.
2023 ASPS data highlight a 5% increase from 2022 in overall cosmetic surgery procedures. Study authors suggest this consistency indicates a post-pandemic commitment by patients to their aesthetic regimens despite economic uncertainties. With financial concerns front of mind, patients also appear to be seeking more budget-friendly alternatives. Minimally invasive procedures saw a 7% growth from 2022 in overall procedures performed (25,442,640 in 2023), suggesting that patient preferences are trending toward less invasive — and less expensive — options.
Top minimally invasive procedures across all age groups included neuromodulator injections and dermal fillers. The 40–54-year age group, which now encompasses both Gen X and older Millennials, had the highest overall demand for cosmetic procedures with a distinct preference for minimally invasive options, outpacing Baby Boomers and Gen Z. This demographic accounted for 48% of neuromodulator procedures and 52% of hyaluronic acid fillers.
