Highlights of late 2023 media wins
Cold sores

Atopic dermatitis
The Academy successfully pitched a story to Everyday Health regarding what to wear when you have atopic dermatitis that features Bruce Brod, MD, FAAD, and Jenny Murase, MD, FAAD, members of the AAD’s Media Expert Team. The story reached over 2.6 million people!
Cold weather skin care
The Academy successfully pitched a story to the New York Times regarding how to take care of your skin in fall and winter that features Brittany Craiglow, MD, FAAD, Jeffrey Weinberg, MD, FAAD, and Dina Strachan, MD, FAAD, members of the AAD’s Media Expert Team. The story reached over 1.8 million people!
Highlights of summer 2023 media wins
Red light therapy
The Academy successfully pitched a story to USA Today regarding a TikTok trend known as “red light therapy” that features Anthony Rossi, MD, FAAD, and Danilo C. Del Campo, MD, FAAD, members of the AAD’s Media Expert Team. So far, it has received over 14.3 million views!
Expired skin care products
The Academy successfully pitched a story to the New York Times about when to get rid of expired skin care products that features Bruce Brod, MD, MHCI, FAAD, and Anne Chapas, MD, FAAD, members of the AAD’s Media Expert Team. So far, it has received over 1.8 million views.
Media covers melanoma in men
The Academy’s promotion of a recent Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology study that found men — and particularly men with skin of color — are more likely to die from melanoma garnered 74 media placements that generated 683 million impressions.
Notable coverage included articles by Time Magazine, the Washington Post, WebMD, Today.com, and NBC News. The CBS News coverage of the story featured Detroit Lions defensive lineman Josh Paschall, and a video is available online.
The study highlighted how men need to be vigilant and get screened for anything that looks suspicious, and that Your Dermatologist Knows how to detect and treat melanoma.

A recent healthline article covering Hugh Jackman’s recent diagnosis with basal cell carcinoma included contributions from AAD President Terrence A. Cronin Jr., MD, FAAD. This article received over 28 million impressions!
AAD Media Expert Team continues positioning specialty
A recent article from Insider featuring Hope Mitchell, MD, FAAD, garnered over 16 million impressions. Dr. Mitchell is a member of the Academy’s Media Expert Team, a group dedicated to interacting with the media to highlight the strengths of the specialty and stress the importance of seeking a board-certified dermatologist for treatment of issues affecting skin, hair, and nails.

We recently partook in a media blitz about the dangers of UV-radiation exposure that can result from using gel nail polish dyers. As of January 31, there were 221 placements with a total of 184,729,600 impressions.
