Hair restoration taking root among young people, women
Facts at your Fingertips
By Megan Bennett, Staff Writer, January 1, 2026
Interest in hair restoration is growing, with women and young adults seeking hair loss surgery at higher rates, according to a member survey from the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery.
ISHRS — which represents 1,200 members from 80 countries — found that in 2024, nearly 58% of first-time surgeries were done on patients ages 26-35 years, followed by 20-25 year-olds at approximately 37%. Patients in their early 20s made up only 4% of first-time surgery patients in 2019. In 2024, 2.8% of these procedures were done on patients ages 36-45, a sharp decline from 42% in 2019.
Compared to the same survey done in 2021, the number of women seeking out hair restoration surgery rose from 12.7% of the total number of patients to 15.3% in 2024.
