Dermatologic Medicare Contractor Advisory Committee (DermCAC)
The DermCAC serves as a national coalition of dermatologist representatives selected by their respective state dermatology societies. Each representative is committed to monitoring local Medicare policy issues, reporting them to the national committee, and actively participating in local Medicare policy discussions.
Our mission is to actively engage in dialogues with Medicare Administrative Contractor (MAC) Medical Directors to review and guide local Medicare medical coverage policies that directly affect the practice of dermatology and dermatologic care with the aim of collaboration with MACs to establish reasonable, fair policies that prioritize patient well-being and access to care.

The DermCAC serves in an advisory capacity as representatives of their constituency between MACs and the health care community. A MAC is a private health insurer that is responsible for administering Medicare Part A and Part B claims or durable medical equipment claims. There are 7 MACs, and each has been awarded a multi-state/territory geographic jurisdiction. (For information on MACs, see What’s a MAC | CMS.)
The DermCAC is advisory in nature, with the final decision on all issues resting with the MACs. The focus of the DermCAC is to discuss proposed local coverage determinations (LCDs), billing and coding articles, issues presented in each jurisdiction, and administrative policies that may affect dermatologists and their ability to provide affective, timely, and medically appropriate care for their Medicare patients.
Structure of the DermCAC
The DermCAC is comprised of a chair, deputy chair, and one or more representatives from each state, with the chair and deputy chair also serving as representatives of their respective states. The DermCAC reports to the AADA Health Care Finance Committee under the Council on Government Affairs and Health Policy.
DermCAC representatives are appointed by their state dermatology society. Dermatologists interested in serving should contact their state dermatology society.
Responsibilities of DermCAC representatives
DermCAC members are expected to participate in applicable MAC meetings and activities as well as review proposed LCDs and billing and coding articles impacting dermatology.
